What is the best time of year to visit the Uyuni Salt Flats?
The Uyuni Salt Flats offer unforgettable scenery throughout the year, but the experience changes with the seasons.
Dry season (approximately May to October): Enjoy vast white salt landscapes, clearer driving conditions and access to Incahuasi Island when conditions permit.
Rainy season (approximately November to April): Water covering parts of the salt flats can create the famous mirror effect, reflecting the sky. Access to some attractions may be restricted.
Can we visit Incahuasi Island during the rainy season?
Not always. During periods of heavy rain, water levels on the salt flats may prevent vehicles from reaching Incahuasi Island.
When access is restricted, the itinerary may be adjusted according to weather and safety conditions. The mirror effect may be an alternative highlight of the experience.
How high is the Uyuni 3-Day Tour? Will I experience altitude sickness?
The tour begins in Uyuni, approximately 3,650 meters (12,000 feet) above sea level, and reaches elevations close to 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) in some areas.
Altitude sickness, locally known as sorojchi, can affect travelers who are not accustomed to high elevations.
We recommend allowing time to acclimatize before your tour, staying hydrated, eating light meals and avoiding excessive physical exertion.
Coca tea (mate de coca), a traditional drink commonly offered in the Bolivian Altiplano, may also be available during your journey. Although many locals drink it for altitude-related discomfort, it is not a proven treatment for altitude sickness.
If you are considering altitude sickness medication, including Sorojchi Pills, please consult your doctor or pharmacist before traveling.
Your safety and comfort matter to us. If you experience symptoms during the tour, inform your driver immediately. Severe or worsening symptoms require prompt medical attention and descent to a lower altitude.
Are the 4x4 vehicles safe?
We coordinate our Uyuni expeditions with selected local operators experienced in traveling through the remote landscapes of the Bolivian Altiplano.
Travel conditions can vary significantly depending on weather, road accessibility and the season. Routes and stops may be adjusted when necessary for safety.

How cold does it get during the tour?
The Altiplano can be very cold, particularly overnight and during early-morning excursions.
Temperatures can drop below freezing, especially during the colder months. Strong winds may make conditions feel even colder.
We recommend bringing thermal clothing, a warm jacket, gloves, a hat, warm socks and suitable footwear, regardless of the season.
What is the accommodation like?
The tour includes two nights in basic accommodation in remote areas of the Altiplano.
Facilities are generally simple. Private bathrooms, heating, hot water and internet access may not always be available.
We recommend bringing warm sleeping clothes and personal toiletries. Accommodation arrangements depend on the selected tour and availability.
What should I pack for the Uyuni 3-Day Tour?
We recommend packing warm layers, a waterproof or windproof jacket, comfortable shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm and a reusable water bottle.
Also bring personal medication, toiletries, a power bank and enough cash in Bolivianos for entrance fees, optional services and personal expenses.
A small daypack is useful for keeping essential items accessible during the journey.
What is the difference between a private and a shared tour?
Private tour: You have an exclusive 4x4 vehicle for your group of up to six travelers, offering greater privacy and a more personalized experience.
Shared tour: You travel with other passengers in a 4x4 vehicle with a maximum of six travelers, following a scheduled group itinerary.
Both options visit the main attractions, subject to weather, accessibility and operational conditions.
Are entrance fees included in the tour price?
No. Entrance fees and local admission charges are not included unless expressly stated in your booking.
We recommend carrying sufficient cash in Bolivianos, preferably in smaller denominations, as card payments may not be available in remote locations.
Where does the tour start and finish?
The standard 3-day tour starts and finishes in Uyuni town, Bolivia.
Transportation from other cities, such as Sucre or La Paz, is not included in the tour price.
