THE EXPERIENCE
From the High Andes to the Yungas
The ride starts at La Cumbre, high in the Andes, where the air is cold and the landscape is open and mountainous. From there, the route gradually descends toward the warmer climate and green valleys of the Yungas.
As you ride, the scenery changes completely. Waterfalls, steep cliffs and narrow sections of road are all part of the journey down to Yolosa.

Practical information to help you prepare for your Death Road bike tour from La Paz.
Do I need mountain biking experience?
You do not need to be an expert mountain biker, but you should be comfortable riding a bicycle, using the brakes and controlling your speed on long downhill sections. You also need to be able to follow your guide's instructions along the route.
What kind of bike is provided?
A full-suspension mountain bike with hydraulic disc brakes is provided, together with the protective equipment included in the tour.
What should I bring for the ride?
Bring comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, insect repellent and a change of clothes. Temperatures can be cold at La Cumbre and much warmer in the Yungas, so dressing in layers is a good idea.
Is travel medical insurance required?
Yes. You must have valid travel medical insurance for the date of the tour that covers adventure activities such as mountain biking.
What happens if it rains?
Rain and fog can occur on Death Road. The local operator checks weather and road conditions, and the guides may adjust the pace or make changes when necessary. Always follow your guide's instructions.
What about the altitude at La Cumbre?
The ride begins at La Cumbre, at approximately 4,760 meters above sea level. The air is thinner and it can be cold at this altitude, so take things slowly at the start and tell your guide if you feel unwell.
Are there age or height requirements?
The recommended minimum age for cycling Death Road is 14, and riders must be at least 1.50 m tall. Riders aged 14 to 17 need mountain biking experience, an additional guide and authorization from a parent or legal guardian.
Children under 14 can only accompany the tour in the support vehicle, subject to availability and prior confirmation.
Where does the ride start and finish?
The tour departs from La Paz, and the bike ride begins at La Cumbre in the high Andes. The route covers approximately 66 km and finishes near Yolosa in the Yungas. Transportation back to La Paz is included.
Can I leave my belongings in the vehicle?
Yes. Items you do not need while cycling can stay in the support vehicle. Bring only what you need for the day and keep valuables and personal documents with you whenever possible.
What if I need to change or cancel my booking?
If you need to change your date, contact us as early as possible. Changes are subject to availability, and any additional costs are the passenger's responsibility.
For cancellations, the following conditions apply:
- More than 48 hours before departure: 80% refund.
- Between 24 and 48 hours before departure: 20% refund.
- Less than 24 hours before departure or no-show: non-refundable.
