How difficult is the Maragua hike?
The hike is considered moderate. The tour includes approximately two hours of hiking along the Chataquila Pre-Hispanic Trail, followed by additional walking to Niñu Mayu and the Devil’s Throat. The terrain is uneven in places and reaches elevations of around 3,600 metres (11,800 ft). A reasonable level of fitness is recommended, and as this is a private tour, the pace can be adapted to your group within reason.
What is the best time of year to visit Maragua?
Maragua can be visited year-round. The dry season, generally from May to October, usually offers clearer skies and drier hiking trails. During the rainy season, from November to April, the landscape is greener and more vibrant, although rain can make some sections of the trail more challenging. Weather conditions in the Andes can change quickly at any time of year.
Are vegetarian meal options available?
Yes. Vegetarian options can be arranged with advance notice. If you have any food allergies, intolerances, or other dietary requirements, please let us know when booking so we can check the available options.

Are entrance fees included?
No. Entrance fees to attractions and local communities are not included in the tour price and are paid directly during the tour. They are approximately 60 Bs per person. We recommend carrying some extra Bolivianos in cash for entrance fees, small personal expenses, and optional purchases such as local textiles or souvenirs, as card payments may not be available in rural communities.
Are there toilets during the tour?
Basic toilet facilities are available at some points along the route, but not throughout the entire tour. We recommend using the facilities whenever they are available and carrying some small Boliviano notes or coins, as a small fee may be charged.
What should I bring?
We recommend bringing comfortable hiking shoes, sun protection, a hat, sunglasses, a light jacket or rain layer, and some Bolivianos in cash for entrance fees and small personal expenses. A small daypack is also useful.
